Fix Your Microphone & Sound Issues

If your mic or speakers aren’t working on Zoom, Teams, or Windows — here’s how to fix it quickly.

1. Check Physical Connections

  • Is your microphone plugged in?
  • Is the cable loose?
  • Is your headset muted?

2. Choose the Correct Input Device

Go to:
Settings → System → Sound → Input

Choose the correct mic (USB mic, headset mic, laptop mic).

3. Test Your Microphone

Click Test your microphone.
If it doesn’t move → it’s not detecting audio.

4. Check App Permissions

Windows may be blocking the app.

Go to:
Settings → Privacy → Microphone
Allow the app you’re using (Zoom, Teams, Chrome).

5. Update Audio Drivers

Press Windows + X → Device Manager → Audio Inputs → Update Driver

Updates fix most audio glitches.

6. Restart Audio Services

  1. Press Windows + R
  2. Type services.msc
  3. Restart:
    • Windows Audio
    • Windows Audio Endpoint Builder

7. Fix Sound Output

Make sure the right speakers/headset is selected.

Settings → System → Sound → Output
